Brian Thompson

Brian Thompson was named chief executive officer for UnitedHealthcare in April 2021. Prior to this role, he served as chief executive officer Medicare & Retirement, UnitedHealthcare's government programs. This is the largest business dedicated to the health and well-being needs of older adults and other Medicare beneficiaries; Community & State and provides diversified health care benefit products and services for the economically disadvantaged, the medically underserved and those without the benefit of employer-funded health care coverage. Before leading government programs, Thompson served as chief executive officer of the Medicare & Retirement organization. 

Thompson joined UnitedHealth Group in 2004 and has held numerous leadership positions including chief financial officer for UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual, Community & State and Medicare & Retirement businesses. In addition, Thompson has served as the financial controller for UnitedHealthcare's Employer & Individual business and a director in Corporate Development.
