About Erin McSweeney

Erin McSweeney was named executive vice president and chief people officer for UnitedHealth Group in March 2022. In this role, McSweeney develops and implements UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise people and culture strategy and strengthens leadership alignment.

Serving more than three decades as a human resources professional, McSweeney is an experienced strategic change agent with a track record of elevating organizational performance and strengthening cultural values. She joined UnitedHealth Group in 2017 and served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Optum for four years. In 2021, she became chief of staff to UnitedHealth Group’s Office of the Chief Executive.

Before joining UnitedHealth Group, McSweeney was EVP and CHRO for EMC Corporation (now Dell Technologies). During her 11 years with EMC, she held various senior-level HR roles within the organization, including CHRO at VCE – a joint venture of EMC, Cisco and VMWare and now a business unit within EMC. Throughout her career, she held several other CHRO roles in various industries, startups and turnarounds.
